No warning message so I drove the 30 miles into work. First link I found to what the sensor looks like. Checked for leaks under the engine - no evidence of leaks or residue on the under tray on hoses or radiator. The flashing light is low coolant level warning, there is a sensor screwed into the top of the expansion tank, either the coolant level is low or the sensor is faulty the metal probes can rust away or you have a electrical fault. Although it did flush through clean, clearly I didnt get to all parts of the coolant system as it went brown again pretty soon after. And my coolant level is at the correct hight. Now Ive been daily driving mine since 12/7 and have never had any coolant issues. I have no idea what caused it and neither does the dealer yet. Its not in the right spot though, its all over my lower engine bay. It disappears after about 200 metres of driving though. 18 Dual horn, coolant warning light control relay 15 19 Turn signals, brake warning light 10 20 Number plate lights, dash lighting on later models 10 21 Headlights (Low beam, left) 10 22 Headlights (Low beam, right) 10 Relay No. So as the tile suggest went to go drive and the car lights up 'check coolant levels'. It hasnt been added to since new in 2015. Though it should not have as it was replaced with a new water pump just over 1000 miles ago fortunately it was not! After replacing the expansion tank cap I got back in the car fired the engine up. The coolant is brown in colour (as it has been since I bought the car). I have an issue with my recently purchased 2000 golf GTI. Saw that my fluid level was at the bottom line so topped it up to the top line yesterday. So I stopped the engine opened the bonnet, the car has coolant up to the Max line but I still unscrewed the cap to the expansion tank checked the coolant had not frozen. After the engine has cooled down, check the coolant level and refill engine coolant if the level is too low. After scraping the ice off the windscreen I hopped in the car to be greeted by a message STOP - Check Coolant. Temperature got down to 0 Celsius at night for a few days. We did actually have a cold snap when the low coolant warning came on, so maybe that has something to do with it. I fired it up, switched the climate from Economy to Auto to start working on the windscreen and switched the rear screen heater on. Plastic shrinks and small leaks might become bigger leaks, and will go away when the weather gets warm. After checking my 150PD Anni had not been attacked by Trick or Treaters last night. This morning, First frost of the autumn BRRRRRR….
